Why Your Business Website Needs a Blog in 2020

It’s hard to believe that we are in Q4 and making plans for TWENTY TWENTY! Wild. I’ve got some big dreams for 2020, but, I’ve got to narrow my vision, at least for a little bit.

For the next 3 months, I’m focusing on getting my current clients across the finish line as we are welcoming baby #3 at the beginning of November (yay and yikes all at the same time!). There is no maternity leave for the small business owner, just a lot of planning and scheduling. Like, a lot. This is likely the last post I’ll get up on BW Concepts for 2019 so I can direct my focus on clients and baby. But! That doesn’t mean I can’t get you focused on your goals for 2020.

If you have been thinking about a blog for your business, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, let me give you some food for thought:

BLOGS BUILD SEO

First and foremost, blogs build SEO. Google Ranks over 200 factors on your website, content plays into nearly a third of those factors. Not only does fresh content count, but the magnitude of the changes to your content, how recent, amount of spelling mistakes, and more. These factors are all easily solved by one thing; a blog.

BLOGGING PROVIDES VALUE

Now that potential customers can find your website with good search engine optimization, give them a reason to stick around! A good blog provides free information for visitors – which translates to value for them as well. In addition, internal links in your posts can lead them to other areas of your website. Keeping a visitor longer on your site, introducing them to and explaining your product, and adding value through free information is a winning combination that leads to conversions.

Oh, and websites with blogs? Have 55% more visitors to their site.

BLOG + SOCIAL MEDIA = MATCH MADE IN MARKETING HEAVEN

I wrote a lot about this concept in the Micro v Macro Content post, but I still think it’s worth repeating. Blogs feed social media content and vice versa. It works two ways; one, using your blog content to feed your social media bites means you’re getting double exposure for your content, without beating visitors over the head with it. And two, using small bits of information to create longer, more detailed blog posts – or breaking long posts into small social media bites, means you’re not having to re-invent the wheel to create meaningful content. Win-win!
