Why Social Media is Vital for Your Non-Profit Fundraiser

We just wrapped another year supporting the annual fundraiser, Croquet for a Cure and it was such a blast! This young event and organization is just getting off the ground, but they’re doing it fast and BW Concepts was thrilled to be able to help steer its trajectory.

The Backstory

Croquet for a Cure was started by the incomparable Meg Seoane and her beautiful family. Their goal is to help cure Alzheimer’s, one wicket of croquet at a time. In just three short years, they have raised and donated over $250,000 to support the HonorHealth Foundation Myles & Hermanda O’Connor Fund (started by the Seoane Family), which is helping to underwrite the new Memory Care Center at the Bob Bove Neuroscience Institute.

BW Concepts has assisted by hosting the social media leading up to and during the event. Our goals included gaining followers, raising awareness for the event, and informing ticket holders with details about the day of the event. We also assist throughout the year with a few posts as needed.

Why Social Media?

While the goal for any business is consistent posting, having a social media manager for just a portion of the year to help facilitate an event can be highly beneficial. Here’s how social media can be a game-changer for promoting your next fundraiser:

1. Reach a Wider Audience—Faster

Gone are the days of relying solely on flyers and email lists. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn allow you to connect with hundreds or even thousands of potential donors instantly. Your message can reach people far beyond your immediate network with the right strategy.

2. Tell a Compelling Story

People don’t just give to causes—they give to stories. Social media is the perfect place to share the why behind your fundraiser. Stories build emotional connection and trust, whether it’s a heartfelt testimonial from someone you’ve helped or a behind-the-scenes look at your team in action.

3. Engage Your Supporters

Social media isn’t just a one-way street. It’s a place for conversation and community. Encourage your followers to participate by sharing your posts, tagging friends, or even creating their own content in support of your fundraiser. Create a custom hashtag for your campaign and invite supporters to use it when they post. You’ll build momentum—and visibility—with every post.

4. Create Urgency with Real-Time Updates

Fundraisers often have deadlines or goals, and social media is the perfect place to build excitement as you get closer. Real-time updates, countdowns, and donation milestones can motivate people to act now, not later.

5. Leverage Followers and Supporters

Your most passionate supporters can be your biggest promoters. Encourage board members, volunteers, and community influencers to share your campaign on their personal platforms. Their endorsement adds credibility and helps your fundraiser reach new circles of support.

6. Track and Optimize

One of the biggest advantages of social media? Analytics. You can track which posts perform best, what times your audience is most active, and which platforms drive the most traffic to your donation page. Use these insights to tweak your strategy in real time.

Strategize for Your Next Fundraiser

Social media isn’t just a marketing channel—it’s a mission amplifier. It can transform your fundraiser from a local event into a movement when used strategically. Whether you’re raising funds for a new project, emergency relief, or annual programming, social media can help you inform, inspire, and ignite support like never before.
